HP TouchPad returns in TigerDirect bundle, if only for a moment

I had heard rumors that HP Touch Pads would return around the Holidays, and it seems that they are starting to appear.

“We’ve got TouchPads!” That’s the slogan, but even TigerDirect admits that it’s expecting its latest batch of TouchPad slates to evaporate in a matter of minutes. Strangely enough, we’ve seen the zombie-like webOS tablet on sale in a variety of locations during the past few months, and if you’re quick, you’ll be able to buy yet another from yet another vendor at 2:30PM ET today. The company’s not saying how many are in stock, but we’re told to expect the entire batch to be claimed “by 2:32PM ET.” The deal? $249.99 nets you a 32GB TouchPad, a 10.1-inch Belkin tablet case and Creative Labs’ D80 Bluetooth speakers, while a $299.99 bundle replaces the speaker with a Photosmart printer. Oh, and don’t even bother trying to order over the phone — this one’s online only, and it’s one bundle per customer. We’re telling you now so you’ve got time to memorize your credit card number. Feel free to talk about nerves, shaking limbs and tales of luck in comments below.

AUTISM ADVOCACY AND TECHNOLOGY NEWS ZONE

As an individual with high functioning Asperger syndrome, a kind of autism, and the father of three kids who are also on the spectrum for this disorder, I have always felt a need to make a difference for the people with autism. I dream of establishing a national organization like the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society to make living on the spectrum better for those with autism related disorders. Utilizing my knowledge and passion for technology with my personal experience and interest in autism, I launched https://technewszone.com, on January 11, 2011 .

We are a tech-focused state nonprofit. As we get funded we intend to help those on the autism spectrum by using technology-tablets and related computer technology plus the gift of music and the arts, to make the lives of people with autism better, and to support their families and the educational facilities that serve them.

We have a unique approach, view point and ideas.

Our Plan:

Our intent is to give the gift of technology through donated tablets and along with proper training to children and young adults with autism, their families, and the educational programs and schools that could make use of them. We also plan to fund applications to use with the technology.

Tablets are a very kinesthetic device which seems to make learning easier for many people with autism. Tablets like Apple iPads aid in education and improve the level of involvement in many aspects of their lives. However, a decent tablet runs $400-$800 which is very expensive for most families of people with autism.

Our second intent is to give the gift of music and the arts. Schools are very short on funding especially for the arts and music. Most parents of kids with autism cannot afford instruments, band trips, choir events and other arts materials. We want to help.

We will donate musical instruments to people with autism and education to improve quality of life. In addition, we will give the resources to provide help to theatre programs in both private and in public schools, as well as other arts that accept people with autism in their programs. We strive to promote inclusion and acceptance.

In order to further the quality of life for people with autism we want to expose them to cultural events. We will donate tickets, to musical events, theater, and other arts to enrich their lives.

I feel that many people with autism are talented in the arts and music. Even if not talented in the arts, I feel they can definitely benefit from the exposure to arts, music and technology.

Dare I bring up a topic that most of you will probably skip over? I dare, and I hope that you stick around long enough to get the important message that is being addressed, as This is not your ordinary exercise article. I’m talking about exercise, but not in the traditional sense that we all assume. I am talking about exercise as it relates to our kids with Autism.

Yes, we all know that exercise is good for us, but how many of us have heard the exercise spiel so many times that even the mention of the word switches our brains quickly onto the next important task. What would you say if someone asked you “Why should you exercise?” The most common answers usually involve weight-loss, endurance, cardiovascular health, or some simple term like, “for our health”. But what many of us don’t think about is the fact that exercise helps our bodies to detoxify!

Last fall I met Dr. Julie Buckley at the National Autism Association annual conference, but I was already familiar with her work. Her book, Healing Our Autistic Children: A Medical Plan for Restoring Your Child’s Health, is one of my favorite books for parents who work tirelessly to navigate the challenging waters of raising children with ASD. In her book, Dr. Buckley shares very personal experiences (as a mother and Pediatrician) about how and why autism is a treatable medical disease. It is well-written, easy to read and filled with tremendous information which helped equip me to be a better mother and caregiver to Ethan. Also, the two times I’ve heard Dr. Buckley speak at NAA, I was greatly impacted. See my most recent post about Caring for the Caregiver HERE. I hope you’ll enjoy Part 1 of our interview series.
